Match 37, Delhi

Delhi Capitals got there the hard way but get there they did, just about! The home side got off to a blistering start despite Mohammed Shami conceding just one run from the opening over of the innings. Shikhar Dhawan in particular was in great form once more as he punished anything slightly loose. The left-handed stroke-maker went on to reach his 35th VIVO IPL fifty before he departed to Viljoen playing a hoik to the on-side.

Rishabh Pant came and went before Colin Ingram played a fiery cameo to get the hosts close but not over the line. Shami bowled him with a superb yorker before Axar Patel was run out the next delivery. However Shreya's Iyer held his nerve to take his team home.

Iyer: "I'm really satisfied on winning this one after losing three home games. The way we played, it was really good to see. This pitch hasn't been suitable for our batsmen who like to play it on the rise, it's a really slow wicket. It's really important to finish the games and today I did that. Sandeep is a very confident lad. Even if he goes for runs, he comes back hard. He's fearless and positive in his approach. The presence of Amit Mishra also helps him. We want our top-order batsmen to play fearless cricket and that's what happened. Dhawan is playing fearless cricket right throughout the season and that's helping us."

Ashwin: "I thought that the score was just below par because of the dew. It was hard to grip the ball for the spinner bowlers. We lost too many wickets in the middle overs despite Chris Gayle playing a brilliant knock. Mujeeb is a very important player for us. It happened last year as well, he got a soft tissue injury. It was quite disappointing from that angle. But having said that, we have enough talent to back him up. Unfortunately we didn't have enough runs on the board today. We were giving away one or two soft boundaries and we need to be tight there. If we had 12-13 to defend in the last over, we would have fancied ourselves."

MoM: Shreyas Iyer
