Match 55, Mohali

So with that victory, Kings XI Punjab avoid the wooden spoon and seal at least sixth position on the 2019 VIVO IPL table. The win was setup by the brilliance of KL Rahul, whose 71 off 36 went a long way to sealing the points for the home side. The innings was made even more incredible by the fact that the opener saw out five dot balls to start his innings. Shortly after, however, he found his groove, feasting on CSK’s bowling with an array of strokes that sent the Mohali crowd in raptures. Nicolas Pooran’s late knock of 36 off 22 kept the excitement going on a positive end to proceedings for KXIP.

For CSK, they still got what they needed out of the match. In preventing KXIP from chasing the total within 14.2 overs, they sealed a top-two position and a guaranteed spot in Qualifier 1. Their biggest highlight from today was Faf du Plessis’s 96 off 55, a tremendous display of T20 batting that mixed both traditional and innovative cricket shots. He was ably supported by Suresh Raina (53 off 38) in their partnership of 120, taking the visitors towards a total of 170. But it would prove too short as KXIP cruised home. MS Dhoni and his troops will reassess and look to come out firing in their big clash later this week. Thanks for joining us again today!

MoM: KL Rahul

Ashwin: "It wasn't easy for us, but we haven't been outplayed in any game apart from one against SRH. We have played some good cricket and we need to build on this. The powerplay battles were what we lost this year. Teams get sussed out and plan against you better. When teams plan against us, we have to respond better.  Chennai, Mumbai and SRH all do things differently. Teams have to have strength in one department, and that's something we'll be looking at. For me, Mike Hesson has been really good, and we have built a good work ethic. We have to have a long-term vision for the franchise."

Dhoni: "You need to give credit to them, I think they bowled well too. It wasn't an easy wicket. Overall it was a very good batting effort from their side. Quite happy with how we're bowling, yes we went for runs but we still bowled well. That's something (finishing top-two) as a leader you have to keep in mind. You want to win but at the same time if the opposition get a start like they did it's important to reassess."

Wicket! Jadeja fires in a quick one outside off stump which Pooran tries to cut, but he gets a faint edge and is caught well by MS Dhoni. An entertaining knock comes to an end, but the Mohali crowd show their appreciation for Nicolas Pooran's knock!

Six! A poor delivery from Tahir and Pooran again takes full advantage! That sounded SWEET off the bat - this is turning into a brilliant knock to bring it home for KXIP

15.3 I Tahir to N Pooran, SIX, 81.61 km/h short length outside off stump.

That's beaten everyone, including MS Dhoni - a rare sight!

14.3 R Jadeja to N Pooran, no run.
14.2 R Jadeja to N Pooran, no run.

13.6 DJ Bravo to M Singh, two runs, 132.57 km/h full toss on middle stump.
13.5 DJ Bravo to N Pooran, one run, 129.29 km/h full length outside off stump.

Four! Bravo overpitches and Pooran crunches a drive through the covers for a lovely boundary. Looking ominous here is Pooran

13.4 DJ Bravo to N Pooran, FOUR, 130.87 km/h full length outside off stump.

Close! And dropped at point! Oh no, not what CSK needed. Pooran slices one to Murali Vijay who can't hang on

13.3 DJ Bravo to N Pooran, no run, 128.99 km/h full length outside off stump.

Four! Well, it's not your usual type of four - it's all ran! Pooran strikes it to the right of Jadeja at long-off and immediately calls two. The Jadeja throw at the stumps then goes for overthrows, and they come back for two more. To make matters worse, Kedar Jadhav has injured his shoulder diving to save the overthrows

13.2 DJ Bravo to N Pooran, FOUR, 126.26 km/h good length just outside off stump.
